Every Bollywood fan has an opinion as to who’s the most promising, upcoming actor is today, but industry observers and film experts have chosen a select group, any of whom could be the next big thing. Are they right?
The Cream of the Crop
Sushant Singh Rajput is a TV actor who became even more popular after his debut film Kai Po Che stormed the box office. His follow up movie, Shuddh Desi Romanc, also did well on the box office, leading many industry observers to say he could be Bollywood’s next big star. He’s not the only one though as TV host-turned-actor-singer Ayushmann Khurrana is also making waves as his film debut Vicky Donor (2012) also performed solidly and profited handsomely.
In addition to the two, there’s also Arjun Kapoor, a newcomer who’s had more films than other new actors. But while his debut Ishaqzaade (2012) did all right, his follow up Aurangzeb, didn’t perform as well, which again shows the risks that actors take when it comes to choosing their roles and projects. Even so, Arjun has won critical praise for his performances.
Two other actors that hold a lot of promise are Sidharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, and both have good projects and are considered among the closest things to sure bets in the box office. It also doesn’t hurt they’re good looking and very capable too.
Of course just like in Hollywood, nothing is guaranteed, and it’s entirely possible that someone from left field would suddenly come out and become the toast of the Indian film industry. And it is also possible that any of the actors mentioned will string up several hits or misses and change the movie landscape, but it’s this unpredictability that makes Bollywood what it is today: exciting, fickle and a lot of fun.
