Mahima Chaudhary was born on 13th September, 1973 in West Bengal. Her real name is Ritu Chaudhary which she changed to Mahima since Subhash Ghai has a superstitious belief of launching big careers with actresses whose name starts with M.

Mahima was a model and once appeared with Aishwarya Rai in a Pepsi commercial. She also hosted an entertainment TV show called Public Demand. Her film debut came in 1997 with her role of a village girl in the film Pardes, which was a major hit and Mahima won rave reviews for it. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award and was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. The actress also won accolades for her movie Dil Kya Kare in 1999.
