Indian actress Preity Zinta along with other women like Renuka Chowdhary and some NGO's
raised their voice and had a
convocation with T.Chidambaram, the finance minister. They had a
discussion session for about
20 minutes during which they had a serious talk on the ways to solve
problems for women. They
insisted him to make the budget this year women-friendly along with
some incentives for women
in the industry.
Preity was interviewed by the IANS. She was questioned by the reporters
as to why she had to raise
the social issues to a politician. She said that though she belonged to
an industry and srated
her glamour role, her intension was to motivate public awareness. She
openly stated that whether
it is a role in films or real life situations she was re-inspired by
many situations. She also said
that it was a natural growth process for all the human beings.
Preity seems to be much involved with the social welfare programs and
more concern about women
welfare than anything in specific. According to Priety, women who are
well known to the crowd must
raise their voice for the upliftment of the majority of the women
community who are silent in this
community. This will provide more opportunities for the women. It is
very difficult to ask for a
single home loan for a women or widow when they do not have a secure
collateral protection to offer
them. Preity is strongly determined to bring that change and of course
she is involved in personal
sanitation and upliftment programs. She would also like to bring about
free and compulsory education
for women.
Preity's humble request for the public was that they must never look
the girl child as a burden. Before
becoming a glamour icon she performed a role as teenage single mother
in "Kya kehna" which became a
hit due to the fantastic performance of the actress.
The actress is extremely thankful for her father who gave her a full
support for her career. She is
now happy that she is earning more than any other boys and this
inspired her to work for the public.
She says that if she could do that, then why not other girls in the
less privileged families.
She said that a girl child need not be considered a burden. It is a
well known fact that when a husband
dies, the women is left as a widow with her children and only loans in
her hand. There would be no one
to care her and marry a girl who is a widow and already the mother of a
child and the creator. From
the home makers to home less women this is the situation. She also
asked to softer the interest
rates for farmers which would make a lot of difference.
Preity had a serios discussion with the finance minister this monday on
all this critical situations.
Infact she was the only lady from the film industry who met the finance
minister for a public cause.
It was not easy to get an appointment with the minister but he gave
them a patient ear and listened
so gracefully that the meeting became so positive. Preity said that she
had never met Mr. Chidambaram
before and that he was highly professional and articulate.
Preity said that it was because of her lot of work with women and her
concern for female infanticide.
She openly confessed that it was time to give back the society what she
got from it.
